Child allowance system
The former Child Allowance system "Jido Teate" was renewed as
"Kodomo Teate" from April 1st, 2010. This new system was made
to give support and a healthy life style to children throughout Japan.
Use the allowance properly
This allowance is granted to support children's healthy life style. Therefore,
it is responsibility of their parents or guardians by law to have to use
the moeny for their children. Parents or guardians must not use the money
for something else while overlooking their children's school lunch fee
or some other costs for child rearing.
When you give birth...
After handing in a register of a birth, please complete the necessary procedure
for Kodomo Teate at Child-care Support Division or one of the branch offices
of Onomichi Cityhall.
About the details of Kodomo Teate
Parents or guardians of a child between 0 and 15 years of age (until the
first occurrence of March 31st thereafter).
*This allowance is NOT income-tested.
13,000yen per child (per month)
The grant is made 3 times a year, February, June and October. It will be transfered to your bank account. The date for payment is 15th and it will be the next business day if 15th is a holiday.
About the procedures
After you give birth...
After having the birth registered, please follow the necessary procedures for Kodomo Teate at Child-care Support Division or one of the branch offices of Onomichi Cityhall.
1. Your Health Insurance Card
2. Savings account in your name
3. Your seal
4. Others (like a "separated guardianship statement (PDE doc) etc...)
