Finding a job in Japan

One of the easiest and safest way of finding a job in Japan is making use of the Public Employment Security Offices, also called the Hello Work Offices. They provide services such as job counseling, information about job vacancies in Japan, etc. to foreigners to have residential statuses which allow them to work.

Hello Work is the place to go!

There are close to 600 Hello Work Offices thoughout Japan and they are all connected by an on-line system. It is therefore possible to find a job in Hokkaido, even if you use the services in Hiroshima!

There is a Hello Work office in Onomichi, but unfortunately it doesn't provide services in any foreign language. There are interpreters available in the Fukuyama City and the Hiroshima City Hello Work Offices. Click on the names for a map and details. (Japanese only)

• Onomichi Hello Work Office: Offers services in Japanese only. 2-7-10, Kurihara Nishi, Onomichi-shi, TEL: 0848(23)8609
• Fukuyama Hello Work Office: Offers services in Portuguese, Spanish on Wednesdays, and in Chinese on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. 3-12, Higashi Sakura-cho, Fukuyama-shi, TEL: 084(923)8609. Open on weekdays (except holidays), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Hiroshima Hello Work Office: Offers services in Portuguese and Spanish on Mondays and Wednesdays, in Chinese on Fridays and in English on Wednesdays. 8-2, Kami-Hacchobori, Naka-ku, Hiroshima-shi, TEL: 082(227)1644. Open on weekdays (except holidays), from 8h30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Procedures to follow when applying for a job at Hello Work Offices

• Register by filling an application card.
• Discuss working conditions, type of work, wages and working hours you wish with the staff and they will help you with selecting a job from the vacancy list.
• The information of the vacancy is yours to look at freely.
• If you find a vacant position that interests you, the Hello Work staff will contact the company and arrange a certain day for you to visit.
• Visit the company on the appointed day and have an interview.
