Employee's health insurance (shakai hoken)

When a worker and family members are injured or become sick, the Employee's Health Insurance program covers medical expenditures and offers allowances for medical treatments. All companies are required to join this insurance program. The fee is determined according to each person's income, and the employer and employees equally share the cost of insurance premiums. For more information, please contact the social insurance office that covers your workplace's region. For people working within Onomichi City limits, this means the Mihara Social Insurance Office (Mihara shakai hoken jimusho). You can access a map (Japanese only) by clicking on the link below:

Mihara Social Insurance Office: 4-2, 2-chome, Enichi-cho, Mihara-shi, TEL: 0848(63)4111

Self-employed workers, workers in agriculture, forestry and fisheries as well as unemployed residents are required to join the "National Health Insurance" program. Insurance premiums are charged to each household as a unit. For more information, please refer to the "Hospitals and Health" section of this web site.
