Outline of the Japanese tax system
In order to live our daily lives in comfort and security, there are many services that us as individuals or the private sector cannot fully provide. Obviously, the police, fire brigades, schools, roads, parks and such are vital components of our society and they must be paid for with taxes. It is the duty of all residents of Onomichi City to pay their fair share of taxes.
In Japan, there are 2 main kinds of tax: national taxes and taxes levied by local governments. The following is a breakdown of both kinds and of how they collected.
