Kenkichi Nakamura was the leader of the Araragi, a group of
poets, and his presence in the world of tanka, a kind of Japanese poems,
is still felt very strongly today.
His health weakening, he moved to Onomichi on December 25th
1932, and into a house on Mt. Senkoji where he hoped to get better but,
on May 5th 1933, he passed away. He is still thought of as one of the greatest
modern Japanese poets.
Kenkichi Nakamura
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, he was the leader of the Araragi,
a group of poets and his influence is still felt in the field of Japanese
poetry. He came to Onomichi to heal after a terrible illness, but died
in 1933, at the age of 46. |
