The Shimanami Kaido spans the distance between the main islands of Honshu and Shikoku, and its bridges play a vital role in the region's economic and social development. It is possible to cross most bridges on foot or on a bicycle, allowing people to travel and commute in a very cheap and eco-friendly way.

About the Onomichi and Shin-Onomichi Bridges (Between Onomichi to Mukaishima)

The Shin-Onomichi Bridge is not designed to allow pedestrians, bicycles or scooters cross the sea between Onomichi and Mukaishima. In addition, the lane for pedestrians and bicycles on the Onomichi Bridge is quite narrow, so please use the ferries instead.
